A wine estate and an ancient 12th century Romanesque abbey meticulously restored, Abadia Retuerta, just outside the village of Sardón de Duero, is a setting as beautiful as it is unique for a getaway. The aesthetics feel medieval, with vaulted ceilings, thick stone walls, and a silent cloister, but the spaces are bright and airy, courtesy of modern furniture accented by warm wood and soaring windows. There are just 27 rooms and 3 suites here, housed in the monastery’s old hostelry with breathtaking views of the vineyards. On the culinary front, the hotel is home to the one Michelin-starred Refectorio Restaurant, the laid-back Vinoteca, the Calicata Terroir Bar, immersed in nature and on the banks of the Douro River and Cloister Garden where breakfast is served.
